Beacon 123

At the Beacon123 afterschool program in Harlem, K–2 students took a deep dive into space and Earth Science through Hk’s Our Universe and Beyond unit. Over the course of 16 hands-on lessons, students explored big ideas in astronomy, weather, and geology while staying curious and creative every step of the way.

From building Solar System hats and models of Earth’s layers to creating weather wheels and shining star paintings with glow in the dark paint, these young scientists engaged with every concept through fun, tactile activities. The photos say it all: engaged learners, proud creators, and a classroom full of bright ideas.
