Elevate Research Properties Partners with Hypothekids to Empower Young STEAM Leaders

Elevate Research Properties, the life sciences subsidiary of Taconic Partners, announced a partnership with Hypothekids, a nonprofit based in West Harlem that provides science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) education and internship opportunities to New York City students from underrepresented backgrounds. This collaboration is part of a larger series of community-based collaborations to take place throughout the year. Hypothekids will hold its engineering camp, 10th Anniversary Gala and other events at Elevate’s West End Labs, a new state-of-the-art life science building near Lincoln Center.

This partnership, alongside those yet to be announced for 2024, underscores Elevate Research Properties’ ongoing commitment to social responsibility and community engagement.

“Hypothekids is excited for this partnership with Elevate Research Properties and thankful that they opened their doors to students in our engineering camp and offered to provide complimentary lab tours that expose underrepresented youth to high-tech careers,” said Marisa Mitchell, executive director. “By connecting us with their life science tenants and programming, they are helping to expand the range of training and internship opportunities we offer to low-income high school students who want to pursue STEAM professions.”

In addition to the 10th Anniversary gala on October 17, West End Labs will host the Spring Break STEAM Camp from April 22 to 26, providing middle-school students immersive hands-on experiences in engineering and creative thinking through an exploration of the landmarks and infrastructure of New York City. This summer, it will host an internship program where a a select group of students will collaborate with Elevate’s tenant companies and other NYC-based science research organizations on real-world research projects.

“Elevate Research Properties remains committed to fostering a vibrant life sciences ecosystem throughout New York City,” said Peter Sheehan, director of amenities and experiences for Elevate. “Partnering with Hypothekids allows us to extend this commitment by inspiring and nurturing the next generation of diverse STEAM leaders. We are excited to offer Hypothekids access to our cutting-edge facilities and talented tenant community exposing them to exciting career opportunities and the transformative power of the life sciences.”
